Fran Alvarez is an illustrator for children's books and other publications, advocacy projects, brands collabs, merchandise, and personal experiments. She's a big fan of details in nature big or small, magical realism, silly what-if stories, and day-to-day anecdotes from living in a city in between tropical greenery and metropolis grime. She works with a wide variety of analog materials like graphite, charcoal, acrylic, and watercolors, and can also draw digitally.
Her recognitions include the Ezra Jack Keats Award Illustrator Honor, the Nami Concours Green Island Award, the Philippine National Children's Book Award, and being a Bologna Children's Book Fair Illustration Exhibit finalist. She is currently a graphic designer at Studio Dialogo. She is also a former Bartels Science Illustration Program artist at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in New York.
